Dr. Zaheerah Shakir-Khan

Dr. Zaheerah Shakir-Khan is an educator and administrator who has been instrumental in developing and sustaining Clara Mohammed Schools in Atlanta since 1975. After earning her degree from Emory University and briefly teaching in Atlanta Public Schools, she transitioned to the University of Islam, where she taught first grade and contributed to the school's growth across multiple locations. She led the Mohammed Schools of Atlanta to its first national accreditation status in 2000-2001, becoming a pioneer in establishing quality standards for Islamic schools. After consulting work in Norfolk, Tallahassee, and Kalamazoo, she returned to Atlanta in 2014 and served as part-time principal for five years while mentoring her successor. Dr. Khan remains a passionate advocate for supporting Clara Muhammad schools nationally and preserving Sister Clara Muhammad's educational legacy.
