Dr. Clyde Khalil El Amin

Dr. Clyde Khalil El Amin is an accomplished educator and scholar dedicated to advancing education for African American and Muslim communities. He came to Chicago in 1972 and formally joined the Nation of Islam, bringing with him extensive experience from the University of Michigan, where he was instrumental in developing academic support services for Black students. At Clara Muhammad School beginning in 1975, Dr. El Amin served as teacher, administrator, and curriculum developer, working alongside Imam Warith Deen Muhammad to elevate the institution and create a model curriculum that blended academic excellence with Islamic education. A passionate advocate for independent schools serving Black Muslim children, Dr. El Amin emphasizes the critical importance of educators who believe in the unlimited potential of their students. His work has been defined by a commitment to self-sufficiency, community uplift, and educational transformation rooted in the legacy of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad.
